Rage DLC: The Scorchers

Downloadable content for the adventure first person shooter Rage

Platforms: PC | 360 | PS3

Developer: id Software

Release Date: 12/2012

This project was put together very quickly from a combination of existing but unshipped work meant for the original game; and new missions constructed mostly from existing assets. This allowed for a relatively small team (less than 25 of us) to build this DLC pack in about 4 months.

Maps can be loaded directly from the developer console of the PC-Steam version. Under the game properties "Launch Options" add: +set com_allowconsole 1. The console can be toggled in-game by pressing the ~ (tilde) key.

Bash Canyon

Single Player

This mission had been partially built during the main development of Rage, but was shelved before release. I needed to finish building and detailing the environment, lighting, optimization, and script the game play.

The idea behind this level is that it's a second installment of Bash TV from the original game "Bash Season 2". The player faces mutants of all sizes in various arenas, often in conjunction with other environmental hazards.

Although I didn't get to start this mission from scratch, it was nice to be make use of many differenent skills to complete this map; from environment building and lighting to game play setup.

Wellspring Tunnels

Single Player

Based on a theme that the space had been covered with slime by long time mutant infestation, this level was largely built from assets taken from the 'Well' mission modified and retextured. A narrative theme of this mission are the distance roars from a huge mutant that will occationally scare them so much as to stop attacking the player and run for hiding spots. This culminates with a battle against this daddy mutant late in the level. In other locations are there player activated turrets to help fight large waves of mutants encountered at those locations.
